Dental Implants
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are small titanium posts that are integrated into the jaw bone. These act as artificial roots. These posts provide a solid root for holding a replacement tooth or bridge firmly in place.
The procedure can be used to fill in gaps for both the front and back teeth. Dental implants for the front teeth are key for improving the appearance of the mouth. Whereas, implants for the back teeth are important in a mechanical sense for chewing food.
How does the procedure work?
Firstly a titanium post is placed into the jaw bone (known as implant placement). After this, a replica tooth or crown is fitted to the titanium post (known as implant restoration).
Benefits of getting a dental implant
- Effective replacement of a tooth: With regular oral maintenance, these implants are a good option for long-term replacement of missing teeth.
- Doesn’t involve neighbouring teeth: surrounding healthy teeth either side of the gap are not damaged or affected in the process of receiving a dental implant.
